Using the Built-In Polling Option of Webex

ITS recommends that you use Slido instead of this built-in option.

Hosts can create questions before a session begins or create them during a session.

If there is content being shared, only the Presenter may manage the Poll.

Creating Questions Ahead of Time

To create questions ahead of time, open your Personal Room and follow the guide below to create questions. Step 9 of the section below informs you of the save option; click on that to save your question(s) as an .atp file. Give this file an appropriate name so you can find it easily when you need it! Once saved, you do not need to open the Poll.

  1. When the time comes to use your saved questions, click on the folder icon in the Polling Panel (see below).

Webex Polling panel with open file icon highlighted.
  2. Select a .atp file you saved earlier.

  3. Click Open Poll when you are ready to publish the question(s) into the session.

Creating Questions

It is recommended that you create your questions ahead of time. Doing so will allow you to re-use them in future sessions.

  1. Begin your Webex session. Make sure you use the desktop application to run the session. Learn more about the Desktop Application here.

  2. Turn on the Polling panel by clicking on the View menu at the top of the window → Panels → Manage Panels

  3. Click on Polling in the left column, click Add, and click OK.

    1. If you accidentally close the Polling Panel after following Step 3, you may reopen it using the button in the bottom-right corner shown below:

  4. Select the question type (Multiple Choice - Single Answer, Multiple Choice - Multiple Answer, or Short Answer).

  5. Click New.

  6. Type the question then press enter on your keyboard.

  7. Type the optional answers (if using multiple choice) and press enter after each answer.

  8. Optional: Check "Record individual responses" to record how each participant responded.

  9. Optional: Save the question to use it in a future Webex meeting.

    1. Save the poll by clicking on the box with a down arrow (see below). Questions can be saved individually by saving each one, or they can be saved together by creating multiple questions before clicking the save button.

  10. If you would like to open the Poll now, click Open Poll.

  11. Once the poll runs, you can download the results, by clicking on the down arrow. You must save the results after each poll.
