Link SharePoint to OneDrive

This Shortcut can be renamed and removed at the website, not using File Explorer or Finder.

During this initial synchronization, you will not be able to access files in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS). Please use the website, s.uconn.edu/sharepoint, to access your files until the initial synchronization has completed.

UConn faculty, staff, and students may access SharePoint sites through their OneDrive.

When students graduate or when faculty/staff separate from the organization, they will lose access to their SharePoint sites.

Where to access your SharePoint files

ITS recommends accessing your files through the OneDrive App or the OneDrive website.

Both SharePoint and OneDrive use the same OneDrive app on your computer.

Following the guide below, users will be able to access a SharePoint site through their OneDrive.

Add shortcut to OneDrive

  1. Navigate to s.uconn.edu/sharepoint and sign in with your UConn email address and NetID password.

  2. Click on your SharePoint site.

  3. Click on Documents in the left-hand menu. In the top toolbar, select Add shortcut to OneDrive.

  4. This SharePoint site is now visible from your OneDrive.

    1. It can be accessed from your OneDrive App on your computer and from the OneDrive website.

  5. Consider changing the name of this shortcut. Shortening the name of the shortcut will help you in the future if you have many, many files on the other side of the link.

    1. Right-click and click on Rename to alter the name of the shortcut.

  6. Repeat this process if you are a part of multiple SharePoint sites.

  7. Now every computer that is linked to your OneDrive will also sync your SharePoint sites.

Optional

You may rename this shortcut if you like. Since this shortcut is only a link, you can change the name without effecting the destination of the shortcut.

  1. At s.uconn.edu/onedrive, click on My Files in the left hand menu.

  2. Find the shortcut you have added. The folder icon of the shortcut will have a chain link on it, as shown further down this guide.

  3. Right click on the shortcut and choose Rename.

  4. You will also notice that this context menu says “Remove” instead of “Delete”. This is a further reminder that this item is only a link to SharePoint; it is not a folder itself. Choosing the Remove this item will remove it from your OneDrive without effecting any of the files in the SharePoint.
