Unlink a SharePoint site from your OneDrive

If UConn faculty, staff, or students no longer wish to see a certain SharePoint site within their OneDrive, they may remove the shortcut using the OneDrive website. Users must remove the Shortcut using the website interface and not the OneDrive App (using File Explorer or Finder). File Explorer (Windows) and Finder (macOS) will only give you a “Delete” option which, depending on where you click, may delete your SharePoint data. Follow the instructions below.

Follow these instructions to avoid data loss.

  1. Navigate to s.uconn.edu/onedrive and sign in with your NetID and NetID Password.

  2. Click on My Files in the left menu.

  3. Find the shortcut leading to the SharePoint you want to unlink.
    Remember this link’s icon will have a folder with a chain link on it.

  4. Right click, or click on the ellipsis, and choose to Remove.
    Notice the context menu says “Remove” and not “Delete”. This is because it is only a link to another document library, not a folder itself.
