Request a File in OneDrive and SharePoint
Students, faculty, and staff can send file requests for secure uploads into a folder in OneDrive or SharePoint. Recipients of your request can upload files into the folder you have designated. Recipients do not need a Microsoft 365 account, and they cannot see files uploaded by other recipients.
OneDrive and SharePoint are encrypted and secured services. Sensitive information can be requested and sent through them; however, secure file management practices should be followed. Only request necessary information and do not keep information longer than necessary. Delete files that are no longer needed or required by the university.
Requesting Files on the OneDrive or SharePoint Website
The folder you select below will be the location of the requested files once they are uploaded.
Navigate to s.uconn.edu/onedrive or s.uconn.edu/sharepoint and sign in with your UConn email address and NetID password.
If you do not see the Request files option in your SharePoint site, reach out to techsupport@uconn.edu and request that “External Sharing” be enabled for your SharePoint site. Be sure to include the URL of your site.Find the folder that you would like the requested file to reside in. Right click on the folder and choose “Request Files”.
Enter a description for the files that you want. This can be anything that will let the recipient know what files you would like them to upload.
While clear and concise requests are encouraged, be aware of who is receiving the request and tailor your request to them. Example descriptions:
spreadsheet of lab data for the upcoming 2/15 lab
that PowerPoint you showed me last week in your office
Next, enter the user's email address in the Enter a name or email address field. This can be any internal UConn email or any external email.
Alternatively, you can share the link at the top with any user. Upon following the link, they will be able to upload any file that will be added to your OneDrive or SharePoint.
Once all desired users have been added, click Done.
Your file request has now been sent. The recipient will now be able to upload the requested files.
