Group Chats in Teams

Student, faculty, and staff can participate in group chats in Teams.

Please familiarize yourself with a one-on-one chat by reading this guide Send a Chat in Microsoft Teams.

Start a group chat

To create a group chat, follow the same process as starting a one-on-one chat. Simply add more than one recipient to your new chat.

Managing a Group Chat

  • Just as in a one-on-one chat, you can view the conversation or a list of all the files sent to the group by clicking on the Files tab.

  • By default, the group name will be the last names of the participants. Customize this name by clicking on the pencil icon.

  • To view the members or add more, click on the person icon in the top-right corner.

  • Tip: you can use emojis to acknowledge a message instead of sending a message, which would notify everyone in the group.

    • To access the emojis, hover your cursor over a message.
