What You Have
During their time at the university, UConn students have access to Microsoft 365, a suite of productivity apps that comes with cloud-based storage. This includes familiar applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, but also Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and OneNote. See the entire list by logging in.
Accessing Microsoft 365
Logging In
You can directly log in at the Microsoft 365 page or through email.uconn.edu. Click Outlook to open your email. Click Microsoft 365 Apps to access all of your apps online.
Click Sign In.
Use your UConn email and then your NetID password.
Duo 2FA applies. If this is your first time logging in on a specific device or web browser, you will receive a Duo prompt. For more information on 2FA, see Logging In with 2FA.
You may be asked if you would like to stay signed in on Microsoft. Select Yes or No to proceed. You can visit Impact of 2FA on Microsoft 365 and Email for an example of what this page looks like.
You will be directed immediately to the Microsoft 365 homepage, where you may see recent files you have opened or edited.
Download
Microsoft 365 applications are accessible via browser and desktop applications. In most cases, the web apps have feature parity, but sometimes the desktop application offers more functionality.
Explore both methods and find the one that fits you!
If you would like to download the apps, you can do so by navigating to office.com and signing in with your UConn email address and NetID password. Click on Install and more. For step-by-step instructions, see Downloading Microsoft 365 apps.
Navigating to Different Apps
After logging in via browser, you can navigate to the different apps by:
Clicking on a specific application icon (e.g., Teams, Word) on the left sidebar.
Clicking on the waffle icon at the top left corner, which will expand into a white sidebar with a list of apps. You can click Explore all your apps to see more.
Clicking the Apps button on the life sidebar, which will take you to a page with a list of the available apps. If you scroll down, you can explore apps by category (e.g., Productivity, Utilities, Education).
If you have downloaded the Microsoft 365 applications, then you will access the different apps by opening them on your computer.
Students have access to the core productivity apps located at the top of the Apps page and others in the Explore by category section. Apps under the Other Apps section are licensed for University employees only.
Limitations
There are a few key points to keep in mind while using Microsoft 365:
You can download Microsoft 365 applications on up to five university-owned or personal devices including computers, tablets, and mobile phones.
Your Microsoft 365 license will remain valid as long as you are a student at UConn.
Third party application integrations are generally not supported. Due to limited support for monitoring these integrations' security aspects, requests for integrations must be declined unless they are accompanied by a contractual agreement with the vendor that complies with UConn's security policy.
Try It Out for Yourself
If this is your first time using Microsoft 365, here are a few tasks to explore what the suite has to offer:
Send a Teams message to a friend
Create a PowerPoint using themes, transitions, and animations
Take notes for a meeting using OneNote
