How To Create a Learning Module in HuskyCT

This article is for instructors seeking to create Learning Modules to organize content in HuskyCT. Learning modules organize multiple content items into a collection with links in a Table of Contents that is generated during the build process. For more information on what should be set up prior to building Learning Modules in your course, access this resource on adding course pages to your navigation menu.

  1. Access the content area from the navigation menu where you would like to begin building your Learning Modules.

  2. Select Build Content on the blank content page. From the menu, select Learning Module.
Note: Select "Learning Module" and not "Module Page."

  3. The following page will allow you to customize the Learning Module. Start by adding a name to the module.

  4. Beneath Learning Modules Options, you will see two options.

    1. Enforce Sequential Viewing: Forces students to complete one item in the module at a time before progressing to the next item on the table of contents. This may be beneficial based on the content of the Learning Module, but it is not required to be turned on.

    2. Open in a New Window: Opens the Learning Module in a new window from the students' perspective.

  5. Next, instructors have the option to edit some availability restrictions on the module.

    1. Permit User's to View this Content: Set to Yes to allow access to the module.
Note: If "Permit User's to view this content" is set to yes but there is an availability restriction on the module, the students will only be able to view the content once the display after the date has passed.

    2. Select Date and Time Restrictions: Allows the instructor to customize when the module is available from the students' view.

  6. The last option on this page allows customization of the table of contents within the module. If instructors would like to remove the table of contents, they can arrange that setting here.

  7. Next, instructors must build content within the Learning Module. To do so, click on the title of the Learning Module

  8. On the following page, instructors can build content within the Learning Module as you would in a regular content area. Here is information on how to build different types of content.

  9. Once content has been added, items in the module can be reorganized to customize the viewing of the module in the table of contents. Instructors can do this by scrolling over the item in the module and clicking on the purple bar to the right of the item and dragging it up or down to the desired location.
