Student response systems (SRS) are a tool that instructors can use to receive immediate feedback on teaching and learning and promote active learning. Sometimes referred to as classroom response systems, clickers, or personal response systems, SRSs can include a handheld device called a clicker as well as apps on phones and computers. SRSs are used in small or large classrooms, in-person and remote, to facilitate participation, engage students in lectures, ensure key points are understood, give low-stakes quizzes, or ask students’ opinions or attitudes that they might not normally share comfortably. At this time, the UConn-supported SRS is iClicker.
There are two versions of iClicker for the Instructor, iClicker Cloud and iClicker Classic. Both can be used with students' iClicker remotes and personal devices (i.e., phone app or laptop). Moving forward, we will only be offering workshops using iClicker Cloud for the Instructor since it is the latest version available.
