OneDrive Photo Backup

Students, faculty, and staff may use the Photo Backup feature of the OneDrive app on their smartphone or tablet. This feature automatically backs up pictures and videos from your phone into the OneDrive cloud. This protects your pictures and videos from physical damage to your phone.

Install the OneDrive App

This is the same app that is used to browse your OneDrive files on your mobile device.

To back up your media, you need to install the OneDrive App onto your smartphone or tablet.

Once the app is installed, sign in with your UConn email address and NetID password.

When you leave the university, you will have 60 days to download your data from OneDrive before it is permanently deleted.

Enable the Backup

  1. Open the OneDrive App.

  2. In the bottom-left corner, click on Me.

  3. Click on Photos.

  4. Click Turn on to enable the media backup feature of the app.

Allow some time for the backup to complete.

Change the backup settings

  1. Open the OneDrive App.

  2. In the bottom-left corner, click on Me.

  3. Click on Settings and then Camera Backup.

From here, you can choose whether or not to backup videos, use cellular data instead of just WiFi, to only back up when charging, backup additional folders, etc.

View your backed up media

The OneDrive Photo backup feature is solely a backup tool, not a media viewing tool. If you’d like to view your media, please use the App’s folder view or use a computer.

From your computer, web browser, or smartphone/table, view your OneDrive folders.

  • If you are using your phone/tablet, open the app and click on Files at the bottom, then continue below

  • If you are using File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS), click on your OneDrive folder in the left-hand menu, then continue below

  • If you are using a web browser, navigate to s.uconn.edu/onedrive and sign in. Next click on My files and then continue reading below

Once you are looking at your OneDrive folders, navigate to Pictures > Camera Roll > [Year] > [Month] to find your media
