Switchhook Operation

Use this when your phone does not have a Recall button. The Switchhook button is where the handset rests when it is not in use.

To use the Switchhook, press the button down as far as it will go and release it immediately.

Answering a Call

To answer a call, lift the handset.

Placing an Emergency 911 Call

To place an emergency call, dial 911.

  2. Dial 6 or 7 + the four-digit extension.

Placing a Call on Hold

AT&T Cream or Teledex Black Telephone

  1. Depress RECALL or Switchhook button.

  2. Listen for Dial Tone.

  3. Press #.

  4. Lay the handset down.

710, 825, or Teledex Speaker Telephone

  1. Depress HOLD.

  2. Hang up.

Retrieving a Call on Hold

AT&T Cream or Teledex Black Telephone

  1. Hang up.

  2. Answer

  1. Lift the handset. Depress HOLD.

Transferring a Call

  1. Depress RECALL or Switchhook button.

  2. Listen for Dial Tone.

  3. Dial the 5-digit UConn extension number (6-xxxx or 7-xxxx).

  4. Announce call.

  5. Hang up.

Three-Way Conferencing

  1. Lift the handset.

  2. Dial the first party.

  3. Depress RECALL or Switchhook button.

  4. Listen for Dial Tone.

  5. Dial the third party.

  6. Depress RECALL or Switchhook button.

Six-Way Conferencing

Storrs

  1. Lift the handset.

  2. Dial 112 before placing the call.

  3. Follow the above procedure.

Branches

  1. Feature available upon request.

  2. Dial 122 instead of 112.

Conference Services

Verizon Business is the contracted provider for additional conference services beyond the three-way and six-way conference calling features provided by ITS.

To request conference services with Verizon Business,

  1. Contact the ITS Help Center at (860) 486-4357 to obtain UConn’s agency code and authorization code. You will need to provide this information to Verizon Business when setting up the service. Please have ready the telephone number you wish the services to be billed to.

  2. Contact Verizon Business at 1-800-475-5000.

  3. Identify yourself as a State of Connecticut employee.

  4. Explain your conference call needs. (The most common service used is “instant meeting,” but Verizon Business can help you determine what is best.)

  5. Provide Verizon Business with UConn’s agency and authorization codes.

Please schedule your conference call at least 24 hours in advance.

Also, be aware that for all conference services except “operator assisted,” any conference with two (2) or less participants will prompt Verizon supervision after ninety (90) minutes to request meeting organizer to press *1 to retain conference bridge.

Call Forwarding Calls

  1. Lift the handset.

  2. Dial *72.

  3. Listen for Dial Tone.

  4. Dial the 5-digit UConn extension number (6-xxxx or 7-xxxx).

Once ringing occurs, forwarding is activated.

Deactivating Call Forwarding

  1. Lift the handset.

  2. Dial *73.

Call Pickup

  1. Lift the handset.

  2. Dial *99.

1-Digit Speed Calling

  1. Lift the handset.

  2. Listen for Dial Tone.

  3. Dial *74.

  4. Dial Speed Call Code (2-7) plus telephone number. Receive Dial Tone.

2-Digit Speed Calling

  1. Lift the handset.

  2. Listen for Dial Tone.

  3. Dial *75.

  4. Dial Speed Call Code (20-39) plus telephone number. Receive Dial Tone.

Using Speed Call

  1. Lift the handset.

  2. Listen for Dial Tone.

  3. Dial code plus #.

Auto Call Back Calling (On Campus Only)

  1. Receive Busy Signal.

  2. Depress RECALL or FLASH button.

  3. Listen for Dial Tone.

  4. Dial *66.

Retrieving Call Back

  1. Listen for 3 short rings, answer, and hear ringing.

Canceling Call Back

  1. Lift the handset.

  2. Listen for Dial Tone.

  3. Dial *86.

  4. Hang up.
