Setting Up Remote Desktop on iOS as a Local Device

This article covers how faculty and staff can configure a local, home, or mobile iOS device, such as an iPad or iPhone, to connect to a remote machine.

It is not possible to remote into a Mac/OSX device without another local Mac/OSX device.

Installing the Supported Client

  1. If you are reviewing this article on an iPhone or iPad, navigate to your internet browser.

  2. Access the Remote Desktop Mobile page to install the supported client. Alternatively, you can:

    1. Open the App Store on your mobile device.

    2. Search “remote desktop mobile.” You should be looking for the version published by Microsoft.

    3. Click Get it. The app will install on your device.

To follow the steps above, you need to have already set up an Apple ID and password.

Creating the Remote Gateway
