Setting Up Your New Workstation

University employees who receive a new workstation through the ITS University PC Refresh Program often can set up their device through a self-service process. When you receive your device, it comes configured with the UConn image, meaning your workstation is formatted for you. It also comes preloaded with most apps needed for common work activities including Microsoft 365 apps and the Edge and Chrome web browsers.

These instructions apply to affiliates who are serviced by Information Technology Services. If your department is serviced by a different IT contact (ex. CLAS IT, Engineering Technical Services), you should reach out to them for appropriate setup instructions.

Can I set up my workstation by myself?

Most devices purchased through the University PC Refresh Program can be set up by the end-user without interaction by ITS. Check the following criteria to make sure you are good to go.

Windows

If your new computer is running Windows, you want to make sure that it is asking you to sign in with a screen similar to the below screenshot. If it is, you can set it up yourself using these instructions. If you see someone else’s user account or an otherwise different interface, contact ITS to have your device set up.

macOS

If your new computer is a Mac, proceed through the first-time setup process. It should start by asking for your language and country. If you are asked to create a user account or if you are unable to proceed through these steps, the computer was not set up properly and should come to ITS for preparation. If your Mac goes through the setup process and ends up on a blue UConn-branded login screen, you can continue the setup process yourself using these instructions.
