Creating An External File Copy of a HuskyCT Test

This article explains how to get a file version of an existing quiz or exam from HuskyCT for download and/or printing. The Tests tool of HuskyCT does not readily allow for easy copying or printing of quizzes/exams into external file formats (such as Word or PDF), so Respondus 4.0 has a function that allows for easier conversion. Respondus 4.0 must already be installed and set up in order to proceed with this process.

Downloading and/or Printing a Quiz/Exam from HuskyCT

  1. Identify the quiz/exam in your HuskyCT course from which you want to create an external file. Make note of the exact name of the test as it appears in your course.

  2. Open Respondus 4.0.

  3. In Respondus 4.0, click Retrieval + Reports.

  4. Choose Retrieve Questions and go through the Retrieve Questions Wizard. This will walk you through the necessary steps, providing options as to which course to retrieve from, which exam, etc. Once you have selected your options and completed this step of the process, click Finish. You will now have created a Respondus 4.0 file (.rsp) file to continue with. (If you have never used Respondus 4.0 before, you may need to first set your server connection to HuskyCT.)
Note: You only work with the .rsp file while in Respondus 4.0. This is NOT the actual file you will be downloading or printing. In order to edit the test after the (.rsp) file is created, click on Start and then Open a Respondus File. You can then follow the instructions on how to edit Tests in Respondus 4.0.

  5. Next, click Preview + Publish.

  6. Select the print options you want (e.g., just the exam, the exam with the answer key, etc.). These options will control how the document will actually appear when you download or print it.

  7. Once you have selected your desired options, you can "Save to File" or "Send to Printer." Most instructors choose "Save to File" and select the file format (usually .docx or .pdf) that they want, and save that file to their computers. That file can then be accessed and printed easily without going back to Respondus 4.0.
