Student Technology Guide: HuskyCT

UConn uses HuskyCT/Blackboard as a learning management system. Your HuskyCT account is where you will submit assignments, take online exams, and connect with your instructors.

To get started and familiarize yourself with HuskyCT, review the following:

Access your courses in HuskyCT

Every class you are enrolled in will have its own homepage within your HuskyCT. Each course homepage is designed by its instructor, so they won’t all look and operate the same way - when you start a new class, it is important to spend time navigating its course page in HuskyCT so that you can get acquainted with how it’s organized.

Access your course pages by clicking Courses from the left sidebar menu of your HuskyCT. To open a course’s page, click on its name (e.g. UNIV-1820-First-Year-Experience).

Your course pages may include the following tabs and materials:

  • Announcements

    • Displays announcements from your instructors.

  • Course Calendar

    • Displays a calendar view of course assignments and exams.

  • Discussion Board

    • Contains available discussion forums and threads created by your instructor.

  • Course Content

    • Contains links or folders with course materials like quizzes, exams, lecture slides, learning modules, readings, rubrics, or other course-related content.

  • Assignments

    • Lists upcoming and past assignments. Click on an assignment’s name to upload your submission.

  • My Grades

    • Displays each grade and any comments left by your instructor for your individual assignments and exams.

  • Blackboard Collaborate

    • Presents online learning solutions like virtual meetings, lecture livestreams, or live chats.

  • Purchase Course Materials

    • Redirects you to the UConn Bookstore: Find Course Materials webpage.

Every instructor customizes their HuskyCT course page, so each of your course pages might include different tabs and materials. Instructors upload announcements, materials, and assignments at their own discretion and pace.

More resources and tools in HuskyCT

In addition to your coursework, HuskyCT includes resources and tools that can help you succeed at UConn.

Use the left sidebar of your HuskyCT to navigate to:

  • Institution Page

    • View campus wide announcements, contact information for student support, and links to university resources.

  • Profile Page (your name)

    • Add or change your preferred name, pronunciation, pronouns, contact information, notification settings, or HuskyCT password.

  • Activity Stream

    • View a timeline of updates to your courses like new announcements, grades, and assignments. Do not rely on this page for course information and reminders, as instructors are not required to use it.

  • Organizations

    • Access non-course HuskyCT pages for on-campus jobs or organizations.

  • Calendar

    • View due dates for assignments in a daily or monthly calendar. Do not rely on this page for deadline information, as instructors are not required to use it.

  • Messages

    • Send messages to your instructor. Before using this feature to contact your instructor, ask them about their preferred method of communication (this information may also be on their course syllabus).

  • Grades

    • View your grades for individual assignments and exams from each of your courses.

Setup HuskyCT in the Blackboard mobile app

It is recommended that students check their HuskyCT daily to stay on track with coursework and class announcements. You can check HuskyCT on the go with the Blackboard mobile app.

To set up HuskyCT on your mobile device:

  1. Open the App store on your mobile device.

  2. Search for Blackboard Learn and install the app.

  3. Open the app and enter “University of Connecticut” into the field provided for school/workspace name. Entering “UConn” will not render results.

  4. Click Continue with Web-Login.

  5. Once redirected, review privacy information and click OK.

  6. Click Log in and enter your NetID and password.

  7. Approve the Duo push notification to continue.

  8. Once redirected, review the Blackboard terms of use and click Agree.

Your HuskyCT has been set up on your mobile device and you can check announcements, assignments, and course content from anywhere with an internet connection.

Customize your HuskyCT notification settings

Students are expected to stay up to date with course announcements, assignments, and materials posted to HuskyCT. You can customize your notification settings so that you receive emails or push notifications about deadline reminders and updates to your courses.

Push notifications from HuskyCT are only available through the Blackboard mobile app.

To customize notification settings:

  1. Log into HuskyCT with your NetID and password at huskyct.uconn.edu.

  2. Click on your name from the left sidebar menu of your HuskyCT to access your profile page.

  3. Under Global Notification Settings from the righthand side of your profile page, click on:

    1. Email notifications

    2. Push notifications (only available with the Blackboard mobile app)

  4. Select the updates you wish to receive notifications about and click Save.

Your notification settings have been updated.
