Prevent Random "Wakes"/Enable Hibernate Mode on Laptops

This article will explain how to show Hibernate mode in the Power menu of the Start menu on supported systems.

Sleep mode is the recommended low-power state. Hibernate mode is only suggested as an option for people who experience random unintended "wake-ups" due to undiagnosed software or hardware bugs.

The standard low-power mode on Windows 10 is "Sleep" mode. Sleep mode functions by saving the current state of the system, including any running applications, to RAM and then powering most of the system down while continuing to power RAM in an ultra-low power state. Sleep mode uses a negligible amount of power to preserve this state and offers ultra-fast resumption of the system state. It is recommended for most users.

This state can allow some low-power functions of applications to occasionally perform actions that temporarily "wake" the system. If you experience a large amount of battery drain on sleep mode or excessive heat and noise, there may be an undiagnosed software or hardware bug causing these actions to wake the system excessively or prevent it from resuming sleep properly.

As a solution, you can opt to use hibernate mode instead. Hibernate mode serves the same purpose as Sleep mode but saves the system state to the HDD rather than to RAM. This allows the system to power off completely which prevents random wakeups. A system in this state will have zero power draw. The downside of Hibernate mode is that the speed of suspending and resuming your session will be slower than that of Sleep mode. This difference is greatly reduced (sometimes negligible) if the system is running from an SSD.
