NVivo

NVivo is a qualitative data analysis program that is available to staff and faculty for research. There are two licensing options for NVivo available to individuals covered by the UCONN license.

User license

  • NVivo is licensed with an NVivo account.

  • Only faculty and staff performing academic research are eligible for this license.

  • The individual user license can be installed on personally-owned computers and University-owned computers.

  • ITS manages the NVivo account portal, and, by request, will add UConn and UConn Health email addresses to the portal.

  • Once enrolled, licensed individuals can then log into the myNVivo portal to download NVivo.

  • Once the software is installed, it will be licensed by signing into the application with your NVivo account

  • Licensed individuals can use their myNVivo account to activate NVivo on 2 Windows computers, 2 Mac computers, or 1 of each.

  • ITS will occasionally run reports to make sure that the individuals in the portal still qualify as individuals covered by the university license.

  • If an individual no longer qualifies for the license, they will be removed from the portal.

New NVivo individual user license password

  1. You will receive a confirmation email that your myNivo account has been created from NVivo.

  2. The email will have a link to the myNVivo portal.

  3. If this if your first time logging in with your university email address, you will not have a password yet.

  4. Once at the myNVivo portal fill in your university email address, click Continue, then click the Forgot Your Password option.

  5. This will allow you to create a password for your account.

Device license

  • NVivo is licensed by a license key which allows all users on a computer to use NVivo.

  • The device license can only be installed on university-owned computers.

  • ITS staff will work with the licensed individual who filled out the form to get the software installed on the computer.

  • The intended use case for the device license is to allow access to NVivo for students who are actively doing academic research with the licensed individual who filled out the form.

  • The licensed individual who filled out the form is responsible for making sure that the computer with NVivo installed on it is only being used for academic research.

  • If the computer is no longer being used for academic research ITS should be informed through an ITS support ticket.

  • If NVivo is to be uninstalled from a computer it is important that the NVivo license be deactivated prior to uninstalling the software.
