Run-Time Error when opening Microsoft Word and Powerpoint

 

There is a known bug with some Adobe software that is impacting Word and Powerpoint files. This bug is an add-in within Word and PowerPoint.

 

The Error might look something like this upon opening Word or Powerpoint Application:

Run-time error '53' file not found

Here are the steps to resolve the issue:

Microsoft Word Steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Word and then click on Tools at the top menu bar.

  1. Scroll down to Templates and Add-ins… and uncheck the box for linkCreation.dotm

  1. Then Quit Word.

 

Microsoft Power Point Steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Powerpoint and then click on Tools at the top menu bar.

  1. Scroll down to PowerPoint Add-Ins… and click on it to open the Add-ins window.

  1. Delete the Add-In SaveAsAdobePDF by selecting the Add-in and clicking the minus sign and hitting OK.

  2. Then Quit PowerPoint

Remove Hidden Files:

  1. The next step is to remove two hidden files.

 

  1. To access these hidden files, click on the Finder application in the dock.

10. Navigate the the top menu bar

11. Click on Go and then hold down the Option key on the keyboard and “Library” will appear on on the drop down.

12. Click on Library and navigate through these folders to locate the hidden files

13. Locate the file Word and inside that file you will need to drag the document named linkCreation.dotm to the desktop.

14. Next, locate the file Powerpoint and drag the document named SaveAsAdobePDF.ppam to the desktop.

15. Once all these steps are complete, restart Word and Powerpoint applications and verify the error does not appear.
