Installing Microsoft 365 apps

Active students, staff, and faculty can install the Microsoft 365 suite of apps on their devices.

Install on a personal computer

Active students, staff, and faculty can install the Microsoft 365 apps on up to five personal devices. As long as you are active at UConn, you will be able to access these apps.

  1. Navigate to https://office.com.

  2. Log in using your UConn email address and NetID password.

  3. On the Microsoft 365 dashboard in the upper right corner, select Install apps, then Microsoft 365 Apps. A download of the installer should begin automatically.

  4. Open the download and follow the instructions to install Microsoft 365.

  5. Once installed, you will log in to Microsoft 365 applications using your UConn email address and NetID password.

If you need assistance with the installation process, contact the ITS Technology Support Center.

Install on a university-issued computer

If your workstation is managed by ITS, Microsoft 365 is automatically distributed to your machine. If the apps are not installed on your ITS-managed workstation, you can download them from Company Portal on Windows or Self Service on macOS.

If you need assistance with the installation process, contact the ITS Technology Support Center.

Other options

Microsoft 365 web apps

You can access the Microsoft 365 web apps at office.com. These apps include most functionality of their desktop counterparts.

UConn Anyware

Students can use the Microsoft 365 applications in UConn AnyWare through the virtual desktop. This is useful if you need access to the full desktop applications but cannot run them on your machine.

Other Microsoft software

For staff and faculty, additional Microsoft products (such as Visual Studio) can be purchased by submitting an order through the ITS Business Office.

For students, you may have additional access to more software in the Azure Dev Tools for Teaching portal.

Standalone licenses for Microsoft Office were previously available on uconn.onthehub.com. However, these licenses have been discontinued in favor of the subscription-based Microsoft 365 apps. As a result, Mac users are no longer required to create a personal Microsoft account for Office licensing. The licensing process is now linked to your UConn Microsoft account.
