Add Outlook to Computer

Members of the UConn community can access their Outlook email through the Microsoft 365 web portal or by downloading the Microsoft 365 apps to their devices.

Removing an account from your device will not delete your data. All Microsoft 365 data (email, OneDrive storage, etc.) is stored in the cloud and removing an account will only remove local copies or shortcuts to this data.

If you have a university-issued computer for work, you should already have the Microsoft 365 apps installed. Reach out to your IT support contact if your managed workstation does not have these apps installed.

Windows

Outlook for Windows

You can install Outlook and the rest of the Microsoft 365 apps here:

Sign in
  1. Open the Outlook app that is installed with Windows.

  2. If prompted - add your UConn email address and select “Connect”.

  3. You will then be redirected to a Microsoft log in screen. Enter your UConn email address then NetID password.

Outlook should now have your account saved upon restart

Sign out
  1. In Outlook, go to File → Office Account

  2. Under user information, click the Sign out link.

Sign Back In
  1. In Outlook, go to File → Office Account

  2. Click the Sign In link

  3. You will now be presented with the Microsoft log in screen. After entering your UConn email address and NetID password, you will receive the Duo 2FA prompt to confirm.

Once this procedure is complete, your credentials will be saved, and you will only have to reauthenticate if you sign out/sign back in again. (Exiting Outlook or restarting your computer will not require reauthenticating)

macOS

Outlook for Mac

You can install Outlook and the rest of the Microsoft 365 apps here:

Sign out
  1. Open Outlook for Mac.

  2. In the top left corner of the screen, navigate to Outlook → Preferences...

  3. Select Accounts.

  4. In the window that appears, click the minus (-) button in the bottom left corner and click the Delete button when prompted to confirm.

Sign back in
  1. Click the plus (+) button in the bottom left corner and select New Account...

  2. Enter your UConn email address and password. Approve the Duo request to confirm the sign in.

Once this procedure is complete, your credentials will be saved, and you will only have to reauthenticate if you remove/re-add the account again. Exiting Outlook or restarting your computer will not require reauthenticating.

Apple Mail app

Microsoft recommends that you use the Outlook app to guarantee functionality. Future updates may break the communications between the Apple Mail app and Outlook. Though setup instructions are provided, UConn ITS does not support the use of the Apple Mail app for Microsoft 365.

Sign out
  1. Navigate to System Preferences → Internet Accounts

  2. Select your UConn mail account.

  3. Click the minus (-) button in the bottom left corner and click the Delete button when prompted to confirm.

Sign back in
  1. Navigate to System Preferences → Internet Accounts

  2. Click the plus (+) button in the bottom left corner and select New Account...

  3. Select the option for Microsoft Exchange

  4. Enter any name of your choosing. Then enter your UConn email under the email address field.

  5. Click Sign In

  6. When asked, “Sign in to your Exchange account using Microsoft?”, select Sign In.

  7. You will be prompted to enter your NetID password and authenticate with Duo to complete the sign in.

  8. Once you are signed in, you will be asked which apps you want to use with Exchange. Select Mail, and whichever other apps suit your preference. Click Done when finished.

Outlook for Web

Sign in
  1. Navigate to s.uconn.edu/outlook

  2. Select Sign in and enter your UConn email address then password

  3. Confirm the Duo 2FA verification if prompted, and then Outlook should load up.

Sign out
  1. In the upper-right-hand corner of your web browser, select your picture or initials.

  2. Select Sign Out.

Sign back in

Refresh the Outlook website to sign back in.

Outlook on the web is available at http://office.com as well.
