Settings for Respondus 4.0 Server Connection to HuskyCT

This article is for instructors who need to update their Respondus 4.0 server connection to HuskyCT, as well as those new to Respondus 4.0, and need to set up the server connection for the first time.

Due to updates to HuskyCT login protocols, as of Nov. 3, 2022, all instructors using Respondus 4.0 will need to update their Respondus 4.0 server connection according to the new settings below.

Prior to updating your Respondus 4.0 server settings, please make sure you have updated your Respondus 4.0 application. Go to the “Help” menu and select “Check For Update.”

  1. When you are ready to publish or retrieve your test questions, proceed to the the “Publish Wizard” or “Retrieve Questions Wizard” in Respondus. This will load a screen like the one shown below. Expand the Blackboard Server Menu and click add new server.

  2. In the Add New Server Settings box, leave the setting for “Yes, check for preconfigured server settings” in place.

  3. In the Preconfigured Server Settings Wizard box, type “UCONN BlackBoard 9 System” into the first entry field to name the Blackboard server:

If you are setting up Respondus 4.0 on your own computer, you can check the box to save your username and password. If you are using a shared computer, you should not check that box.
You can also keep the option to “Run connection test” checked. This will confirm that the connection works before you proceed with actually uploading a test file from Respondus 4.0 to HuskyCT. Alternatively, you can skip the connection test to proceed with upload. Either way, click Next.

  4. The first time you enter the preconfigured server settings, you will be prompted to install the Authentication Module. Click OK to let that process run.

  5. You will then encounter a pop-up box informing you that you will need to log into Blackboard. Click OK.

  6. Respondus 4.0 will then open up the HuskyCT login page. Login with your NetID and password. You will then be prompted to authenticate using the Duo two-factor authentication system.

  7. Once you are logged into HuskyCT, click on Continue After Login in the upper-right corner above the HuskyCT Institution Page:

Note: This step of logging into HuskyCT is just for connecting Respondus 4.0 to your HuskyCT account. You will not access HuskyCT for any other purpose at this point.

  8. You will then be redirected back to Respondus 4.0. Click OK on the dialog box to continue:

After clicking OK on the dialog box, wait for the screen shown in step 9 to appear. Do not click Next, it will result in a loop of unsuccessful authentication.

  9. If the connection is successful, you will be able to use the drop-down menu in the Publish Wizard or Retrieve Questions Wizard to choose the HuskyCT course you wish to publish to or retrieve questions from.

  10. If you are repeatedly prompted to sign into HuskyCT, try closing the Respondus 4.0 application and restarting. When you get back to the Preview + Publish or the Retrieval + Reports sections and proceed to the Publish Wizard or Retrieve Questions Wizard, you should see “UCONN BlackBoard System 9 [PSS]” in the Blackboard Server box. If that is present, you have successfully updated the server connection.
