Troubleshooting HuskyCT
HuskyCT is the official application by which UConn students access their courses online. It is a browser-based application used by the University of Connecticut to offer online courses, materials, and exams. Some browsers do not work properly with HuskyCT in their default configuration because the website depends on pop-ups.
This article provides steps for diagnosing and troubleshooting HuskyCT issues.
Article Overview
Accessing HuskyCT
HuskyCT can be accessed by typing either lms.uconn.edu or huskyct.uconn.edu into your browser.
If issues logging in to HuskyCT are reported, try logging in via the Guest Login (beneath the NetID login button).
If you are able to log in, HuskyCT is not down; the problem lies with CAS.
If you are unable to log in to Guest, the problem lies with HuskyCT.
Supported Browsers for HuskyCT
Students can visit the Blackboard Help website to determine if the browser they are using is compatible with HuskyCT. The following browsers can access HuskyCT with minimal issues:
Google Chrome (Recommended)
Mozilla Firefox
Safari
Microsoft Edge
Internet Explorer
Required Add-Ons for HuskyCT
Reading PDFs
In order to view and download PDFs on HuskyCT, your computer needs to have a PDF reader installed. The most common PDF reader available is Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can also use Foxit as an alternative to Adobe.
Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free program for viewing, printing, and commenting on PDF documents. It enables the user to open and interact with all types of PDF content, including forms and multimedia.
Foxit Reader is a PDF viewer that allows you to open, view, and print any PDF file. Unlike other readers, Foxit Reader includes easy-to-use collaboration features like the ability to add annotations, fill out forms, and share information with social networks.
Reading, Editing, and Creating Microsoft Office Documents
In order to view and download Microsoft Office documents, the user is required to have Microsoft Office Suite (even if it is just the basic one), which can be accessed by all students for free through Office 365.
The two most common MS office file formats that are encountered are .doc or .docx (opened by Word) and .pptx or .ppt (opened by PowerPoint). Other free word processing software does exist, but these programs may be unable to open these specific formats.
Playing Movies
QuickTime
QuickTime, an Apple product, is capable of handling various formats of digital video, picture, sound, panoramic images, and interactivity. If a professor uploads the media content as QuickTime, this program is required for the student to view the file.
Disabling Pop-up Blockers in HuskyCT
HuskyCT requires the use of pop-ups for some of its functionality. When viewing grades or opening a discussion post, a pop-up window may appear. If a pop-up blocker is turned on, these windows will be blocked and the user will be unable to access the desired information.
Most browsers notify you when a pop-up is being blocked. These notifications tend to be towards the top of the page, or in the address bar. Clicking these notifications allows you to change the pop-up settings for HuskyCT. If you do not see a notification, you can change the pop-up settings for each browser with the steps below:
Disabling Pop-Up Blockers in Google Chrome
Click the menu button at the top right of the screen (icon with three dots).
Click Settings.
Under the Privacy and Security section, click Content settings.
Alternatively, you can use the settings page’s search bar.
Click Options.
Click Contents.
Click Exceptions.
Type in https://learn.uconn.edu.
Click Allow.
Disabling Pop-Up Blockers in Mozilla Firefox
Click the menu button at the top right of the screen (i.e., the icon with three bars).
Click Content.
Under the Privacy and Security section, click Content settings.
Click Popups.

Click Add.
Disabling Pop-Up Blockers in Safari
Click Safari at the top left of the screen.
Click Preferences.
Click the Security icon at the top of the window that appears.
Make sure the Block pop-up windows box is not checked.
Under the Allow section, click Add.
Disabling Pop-Up Blockers in Microsoft Edge
Click the menu button at the top right of the screen (i.e., the icon with three dots).
Click Settings.
Click View Advanced Settings.
Make sure Block pop-ups is unchecked.

Additional HuskyCT Troubleshooting
Issues with Accessing HuskyCT
If you are still unable to access HuskyCT, try the following:
Hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the login button.
Try logging in with a different browser or a private/incognito window.
If neither of these works, clear the browser’s cache and try logging in again.
Add https://*.uconn.edu to the browser’s trusted sites.
Try logging in through the Guest Login. It will still allow the use of a NetID and Password and allows access using LDAP authentication.
Blank Boxes when Using Firefox Browser v.81
You may encounter only blank boxes instead of your courses or course information when using Firefox v.81. This seems to be a Firefox bug; the only identified fix for this at present is to use a different web browser program.
Issues with Finding Classes
If you are unable to locate a class or a class is missing from HuskyCT, try the following:
Access HuskyCT via learn.uconn.edu or huskyct.uconn.edu, and do not use an old bookmark or search results.
The site can change, so any old bookmarks will bring up an error message (e.g., “Website is unavailable,” “Site is no longer here,” etc.)
Make sure the My HuskyCT Class box is not collapsed. There is a small arrow to the left of the box, and clicking it collapses or expands your class lists.
If none of the above resolves the issue:
Contact the professor and verify you are on the professor’s roster.
Contact the professor to confirm that the professor uses HuskyCT, as not all instructors use HuskyCT.
If you are still having issues, contact the ITS Help Center to provide a technician with the Course Department, Course Number, Course Name, Section #, and Professor.
Classes appear in HuskyCT to students on the first day of classes at beginning at midnight at the beginning of that day.
If a student joins a class late, it can take up to 24 hours for the course to appear in HuskyCT.
Issues with Accessing Quizzes
Ensure that pop-up blocker exceptions are established to allow HuskyCT to use pop-up features. The instructions for doing so can be found above in the section titled Disabling Pop-up Blockers in HuskyCT.
Issues Relating to Java
An out-of-date Java Installation can cause several features of HuskyCT to not work correctly. These issues include:
Blank screen after logging in.
Unable to upload multiple files at once.
You can check if the Java installation is up to date and install new versions on the Java verification page.
