HuskyCT-Kaltura Video Not Playing

This article is intended to provide users with a fix for YouTube videos embedded via Kaltura in HuskyCT that are not playing when the video sound is enabled.

Symptoms

The video will hang on a loading screen while the video sound is enabled. Turning the sound off will allow the video to be played, but turning the sound back on will stop the video. This behaviors effects Chromium-based browsers, including Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Solution 1: Change Google Chrome Website Permissions

  1. Navigate to HuskyCT

  2. On the URL bar, click the padlock icon

  3. Click Site Settings

  4. Look for the Sound setting and change from the default option of Automatic to Allow

  5. Navigate back to HuskyCT and click the blue Reload button

  6. You can now play the video

Solution 2: Use a non-Chromium-based Browser

If changing the site permissions doesn’t allow you to play the video with sound, try launching HuskyCT from a non-Chromium Based Browser including Safari on Macs or Firefox on Windows, Mac, or Linux.
