Loaner Equipment Request Forms
UConn students, faculty, and staff can loan university-owned devices from Information Technology Services. The borrower of the device is responsible for the care and security of the device, including loss, theft, and damage, until it is returned to the university. Loans include a device, a charger, and a soft sleeve for laptops or hard case for iPads.
Loaner devices offered by ITS are subject to availability. Due to demand at any given time, ITS may not be able to loan out devices.
Student loan FAQs
Faculty and staff loans
Faculty Exam iPads: You can pick up the iPads 48 hours before the exam. They are due back to the Technology Support Center 48 hours after the exam. iPads are locked down and only have access to the LockDown Browser. iPads come setup and connected to UCONN-SECURE wireless.
Faculty and Staff loans: Faculty and staff may borrow a loaner laptop from ITS while their device is being repaired. Other situations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Faculty and Staff Travel Loaners: Travel to certain counties of concern to the Export Control office are required to use a travel laptop. It is a best practice for all other international travel.
A clean data environment where only the data necessary for the trip is loaded on a cleanly imaged device limits the potential data exposure risk. User laptops naturally accumulate data; ensuring that none of it is subject to law, regulation, contractually obligation or export control is a heavy lift. A clean laptop allows for a limiting of the data that travels beyond the US.
Loaner laptops are Intune managed and subject to default configuration policy including encryption, patching, defender, remote management, and remote wipe features. Regular user laptops may or may not meet all the requirements.
Loaner laptops are reset upon return after each use (once user data is copied off). This limits the potential exposure to the UConn computing environment to anything that the laptop may have acquired while abroad.
UConn Data Classification Policy and UConn Data Roles and Responsibility Policy place a large amount of the responsibility for protection of University data on individual data stewards and device owners. Faculty and staff are ultimately responsible for assessing the implications of policy, law, regulation, and contractual obligations related to their device(s), roles, and the associated data present on assigned University devices. Generally, Information Security (ISO) and Export Control are empowered to apply and enforce requirements where the risk and need arise (with the caveat that travel to specific regions of concern requires strict adherence to ISO and Export Control directives).
Borrowers who do not return ITS-issued equipment on time are subject to receiving a bill for the full cost of replacement of the equipment and accessories.
