Navigate Carousel

UConn staff can learn to use Carousel Cloud for digital signage. The article below describes the process of navigating the website.

Uploading New Media

  1. To log in, go to Carousel.

  2. Select Carousel to enter the Main Menu.

    Main Menu
  3. Ensure you are working in the appropriate Zone.

    New Bulletin Zone
  4. Under New Bulletin, there are 3 options to choose from:

    1. Templates: create your content using a pre-designed template.

    2. Uploaded: upload your designs to the selected zone (this is the one that you will use the most if you prefer to use tools outside of Carousel to create your content).

      1. Valid Extensions: jpg, jpeg, gif, png, tiff, tif, mov, wmv, mp4, mpeg, avi, zip
Note: For best results, videos should be compressed as MP4 files with a bit rate of 1 to 3 Mbps.

    3. Dynamic Bulletins: these bulletins use external data sources and automatically generate up-to-date bulletins.

  5. Follow the prompts given to finish adding content.

Managing Your Bulletins

Under the Main Menu, click Bulletins to verify the upload or change bulletin order.

  • The Active filter shows all bulletins in the current rotation.

  • The Upcoming filter shows bulletins that have been scheduled to play at another time.

  • The Pencil icon below each thumbnail allows you to edit the settings of that specific bulletin.

Creating a New Bulletin

  1. Log in at tightrope.grove.ad.uconn.edu.

  2. Navigate to the Zone you would like to create the bulletin in.

  3. Select New Bulletin. There are 3 options: Template, Uploaded, Dynamic.

  4. Go through the list of options to select the template that best suits your needs.

  5. If you would like to edit your text, select the Layout tab above the preview window.

  6. To schedule when certain bulletins are active, select the Schedule tab. For more information on scheduling bulletins, see Scheduling Bulletin Changes.

  7. To view more customization settings, click Extras.

  8. When finished, click Publish at the top right of the screen.

If you would like to create your own bulletin outside of Carousel, use the Uploaded bulletin tab.

  • It can be an image or video file; it must be uploaded from the current computer you are using.

  • Drag and drop your file or click browse to select it.

Media Management

Images, videos, and audio clips for your bulletins in Carousel are stored in your Media Library. Media is managed at the Zone level.

  1. Check the orange bar at the top of the screen to make sure you are in the correct zone.

  2. To view your media, select Media in the Main Menu. To find items faster, search your media by name or by tag.

  3. To filter through images, videos, audio, and backgrounds, use the options listed at the top.

  4. To add files, you can either drag and drop files into your Media Library or upload files by browsing through your computer.

Each piece of media has 4 possible actions: View, Edit, Copy, and Delete. You can select multiple files to perform bulk actions.

View: When you view an item, use the back and forward arrows to flip between all the downloaded media.

Edit: Rename the item, add specific tags in order to track the media, and have the ability to make that item private.

Locking the media makes it so your profile is the only one able to view it.

Copy: Media can be duplicated within the zone or copied into another zone, or you can move it completely from one zone to another.
