Digital Signage Best Practices
Digital signage provides a lot of freedom for creators when it comes to broadcasting their message. At UConn, you will be broadcasting to several audiences: students, staff and faculty, prospective students and their families, and visitors to the university. You will want to ask yourself a few questions when designing content for digital signage:
Audience
Who is the primary audience for this signage?
Are there different segments within the audience that need specific messaging?
Objectives
What is the main objective of the content (inform, educate, entertain, advertise)?
What are the takeaways you want from your audience?
Content
Is there a scheduled start or end date for when this content should be made visible?
Is the content accessible and inclusive for all viewers, including those with disabilities?
Design
Is the design visually appealing and aligned with UConn’s branding guidelines?
Is the text readable from a distance, and are the fonts and colors chosen appropriately?
Is there a good balance between text and visuals to maintain engagement without overwhelming the viewer?
Placement and Environment
Where will the digital signage be located on campus (high traffic areas, specific departments/offices)?
Feedback and Evaluation
How will the effectiveness of the digital signage be measured?
