Students, faculty, and staff can create accessible media and multimedia or remediate inaccessible media and multimedia.

Media includes images, videos, and audio. In order to be accessible, practice the following principles:

  • Images must have alternate text. This means an equivalent description of the image. If an image contains text, the alt text must include the same text in the image.

  • Videos must have an alternative or an audio track that provides equivalent information. This means that there must either be a full description of the visuals in the video, or an audio description must be provided.

  • Audio must have an alternative, such as captions or a transcript, that shows all auditory information (including important sounds).

If there is a pedagogical or business reason media with flashing or blinking content is needed, provide a warning to users.
