Recovering Deleted Items on Windows
This article is intended for users who want to recover items that were deleted from the Q or R drive, but these instructions are applicable for any shared network drive on a windows computer.
Mac and Linux users are unable to do this themselves from their respective operating systems. In this case, please log into UCONN Anyware and launch Anyware Desktop. This will give you access to a virtualized Windows desktop so that you can follow the instructions below.
Any changes made by using the process below will be visible to all individuals with access to the network file location you are restoring data to.
Recovering a Lost or Deleted File or Folder
Find the file location in Windows Explorer and right-click the folder or drive location (for individual documents) in which the file was stored.
Click Properties.
Click on the Previous Versions tab, and then highlight the previous version from which you wish to pull the previous document from.
Click Open. A window will appear showing the contents of the version of that folder.
Highlight the file you want to recover. Right-click the file and select Copy.
Open a new Windows Explorer window. Find the file location in which you wish to put the copied file or folder. Right-click inside the folder and select Paste.
Replacing a File or Folder with a Previous Version
Find the location of the file in the shared network drive. Right-click on the file and select Properties.
Click on the Previous Version tab in the window that pops up. Select the version you wish to restore and click on Restore.
Click Restore in the pop-up to restore the previous version.
Data on the Q and R drives can have “Previous Versions” up to 30 days in the past. If the data is not recoverable using previous versions, then it is not recoverable at all.
