Adding Filters in the Content By Label Macro

Knowledge Base contributors can add filters using Confluence's Content By Label macro.

In the majority of the support articles on the Knowledge Base, there is a section called "Related Articles." This section is populated by content by using the Content by Label macro. The macro surfaces articles that have labels that you specified in the macro. At times, the default settings can return too many results or ones that are not very relevant. You can better focus the macro by refining the labels listed and by adding filters. This article covers how to focus results by adding the "In Space" and "Parent" filters. Other filters, such as "With Ancestor," can be useful when you want to span multiple levels of articles.

Adding the In Space Filter

By adding this filter, you limit the results to the desired space.

You must be in edit mode to follow these instructions.

  1. Left-click on the Content by Label macro.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. In the pop-up window, click Add a filter.

  4. Scroll down to select In Space.

  5. Choose either Current space or scroll down under Suggested Spaces for IT Knowledge Base.

  6. Click Preview to see the results generated. Then, you can make adjustments while in the macro.

Adding the With Parent Filter

You must be in edit mode to follow these instructions.

  1. Left-click on the Content by Label macro.

  2. Click Edit.

  3. In the pop-up window, click Add a filter.

  4. Scroll down, and select With Parent.

  5. The page will display a drop-down list of articles, but you must type in the name of the parent article for the article you are currently working on. When selecting the parent page for the filter, ensure that "ITS Knowledge Base" is listed right below the name of the page.

  6. Click Save.

Example

In the example below, "NetID" is the parent article of the article that I was working on, so "NetID" is selected as the parent article for the filter.

Select the appropriate Parent article to filter by.
