Software Installation Guide
Installation Requirements
Installation requires elevated or admin access. (Ability to install applications and write to the Window’s Registry.)
Important Notes:
Though a MacOS version is available, please check with your professor regarding its use. Class materials and instructions may only be suitable for Windows environments only.
Requesting a License
Students may request individual Tableau Licensing by going to https://www.tableau.com/academic/students
Click on Get Tableau for free.
Complete the web form with appropriate information.
In the “Email” field, enter your uconn.edu email address.
In the “School Name” field, select “University of Connecticut” from the list of available universities.
In the “How will you be using your Tableau license?” field, select “Learning as part of a course”.
Click on “Verify Student Status”.
Submit a photo of your UConn ID to Tableau. After verification you will receive a license and installation instructions.
Downloading Tableau
Go to https://www.tableau.com/products/desktop/download-now
Select the most appropriate version for your operating system and CPU (Windows users will always select the “Windows” option).
Installing Tableau Desktop
Go to the Downloads folder and double click on “TableauDesktop-64bit-2024-2-2.exe” to begin the installation.
Select “I have read and accept the terms of this License Agreement”.
Click Install.
When prompted by Windows User Access Control click Yes.
The installation progress will be displayed in the Installing Tableau window.
When the installation completes an “Activate Tableau” windows will open.
Activate Tableau
Click Activate with product key.
Paste the appropriate license key for your class or major in the “Enter product key:” field.
The product key information will be provided by your professor, or emailed to your uconn.edu email address if you signed up using this link: https://www.tableau.com/academic/students.
Click Activate.
Enter the same email address you used when filling out the GET STARTED form.
Click Register.
Click Continue.
