Overview

A Learning Module is a course tool that can be used to contain and organize content, videos, assessments, etc. The other option is a Folder.

Learning Modules are recommended as the first level of course organization in Ultra (unless your course utilizes Perusall) for the following reasons:

1. Learning Modules may contain Folders, however Folders cannot contain Learning Modules.

2. In comparison to Folders, Learning Modules offer several notable features including:

   • Module images that add visual aesthetics to the Course Content page

   • In-module navigation between content for students

   • Required sequencing options

   • Enhanced Progress Tracking

Creating a Learning Module

1. Open your HuskyCT Ultra Course.

2. Navigate to the Course Content page and click on the plus symbol.

4. Select Learning module.

5. Here you will see several settings that are possible while creating a Learning module.

   1. Clicking on the title “New Learning Module” allows you to rename the module.

   2. You can select the visibility status for students.

   3. An optional description box allows you to input text which will appear on the Course Content page.

   4. Advance in sequence requires students to complete a series of steps or submissions before being able to access the next sequential item in the learning module.

   5. Image allows you to include an image that is displayed with the learning module (see example below).

6. After saving the Learning module, you can add or move course items and content into the module.

Advance in Sequence in Learning Modules

Advance in sequence allows instructors to structure a module sequentially. This may include having a student required to post on the discussion board for advancing to the next assignment or completing a survey before the next assignment unlocks.

To begin a learning module with this setting enabled, students will select start and will be taken to the first item in the learning module.

Students will be given the first item and the ability to view uploaded content. To proceed to the next item, they will click on the arrow in the top right.

A student may exit at any time saving their progress and indicating how many steps are left. Pressing continue will allow students to continue the sequenced documents and content.

When a learning module is completed, it will be indicated as so on the student view.

Progress Tracking in Learning Modules

Progress tracking allows module items to be turned into a checklist. If students submit, complete, or view an item, the student may check off the item and mark it as completed.

To turn on Progress Tracking, navigate to Details & Actions and select Turn on.

With progress tracking turned on, students will see checkable bubbles next to each content item. Folders cannot be checked off until all items inside the folder have been opened and submitted. Items also cannot be checked off until the content has been submitted or viewed if a document.

Progress tracking also allows instructors to see student progress on a learning module. This will allow instructors to see the how students are navigating through the learning modules and an overall class progress.

In addition, you are able to sort through various students' progress which allows instructors to gauge the status of students on assignments and the learning module.

Auto-Generated Modules

Auto-generated modules are AI generated modules that Ultra Course View will generate depending on your needs. This can be a useful tool for instructors who want to design a course with learning modules but want a shell to work with.

To auto-generate modules, click the plus sign in the Course Content and select Auto-Generate Modules.

Then enter a description of what modules you would like to be created and go through the settings.

1. Title Prefix is the prefix the module will have such as Chapter, Week, or Module.

2. Include images will select images that fit the topic of the learning module to give it flair.

3. Complexity is the level of language the Design AI will use in the learning module, low being simple and to the point while high is abstract and technical.

4. Number of learning modules determines the number of modules that will be generated.

Select Generate to run the AI Designer built into Ultra Course View.

Lastly, select the modules you would like to add and select Add to Course in the bottom right to finalized. Keep in mind that these learning modules will be empty, they will just be designed automatically.
