Progress Tracking in Ultra Course View

This article is for instructors who want to enable progress monitor tools for instructors and students in their Ultra course.

Enabling Progress Tracking

For instructors and students to utilize the progress tracking tools in Ultra, instructors need to enable progress tracking in their course.

  1. From your course page, click Course Settings in the top-right corner.

Click the sections below to expand them.

Learning Modules, Folders, and Content (including Documents, videos, readings etc.) can have the following statuses: Unopened, Started, Marked Complete.

  • Unopened - indicates that a student has not clicked on this item

  • Started - indicates only that a student has clicked on the item… it does not represent any further level of engagement

  • Marked Complete - indicates that a student has manually clicked “mark complete” on the item

Because there is no submission associated with these content types, they can only have the “Marked Complete” status if students manually mark it as such. Students may/may not know that they can/should do so without instructor suggestion. We recommend providing guidance to students on using Ultra Progress Tracking features.

  1. To check student progress for a content item, module or folder, locate item. Click 3 dots, and then select Student Progress.

  2. The Progress Summary page, shows the progress of all students for that specific item. The Progress Status menu (shown below) allows you to search by student name or sort students by progress status.

  3. The Progress Summary page also allows you to message a set of students based on their progress status with that particular content.

Progress Tracking for Assignments and Tests is different than Content since students are required to make submissions. As such Assignment and Test progress is tracked both in terms of:

  • Student Activity (Unopened, Opened, Draft started, Submitted)

  • Grading Status (Nothing to Grade, Needs Grading, Needs Posting, Completed)

  1. To check student progress for an Assignment or Test, click 3 dots, and then select Student Activity.

  2. From this page, you can view the Student Activity tab and Submissions tab.

Progress Tracking for Discussions is similar to Content in that students must also manually mark their progress as complete. However because it is an assessment, progress is considered student activity.

Journals do not have progress tracking tools at this time.

  1. Under the Details and Actions menu, under Roster, click “View everyone in your course”.
