Creating a Kaltura Quiz

Students, faculty, and staff can create Kaltura Quizzes by adding a Quiz to existing Kaltura media.

  1. Go into My Kaltura Media from the HuskyCT Institution Page or navigate to UConn's MediaSpace, click Guest, and select My Media to Log in.

  2. Click on the video you would like to edit.

  3. Click on Actions.

  4. Select Launch Editor.

Creating/Editing a Quiz

  1. Open the Quiz Editor (click the box icon at the upper left).

Managing Quiz Questions and Answers in Kaltura

This section describes how to add, edit, and delete questions for the media quiz. After you click the Start button or select to edit an existing quiz, the Quiz Creator screen will display on the player.

You can use this screen to:

  • Select the question type

  • Add or Delete Questions

  • Add or Delete Answers

  • Create Hints

  • Create a Rationale (i.e., why a given answer is correct or incorrect)

  • Add Links (only to questions and reflection but not answers)

  • Shuffle the order in which answers are listed

It is highly recommended that you place your final question close to the end of the video but not right at the end. After every question, the video continues from the point the video stopped before the question. Placing the final question near the end keeps the user engaged until the video topic is completed.

To add questions and answers to your Kaltura quiz,

  1. Play the video.

    1. Alternatively, you can move the media’s real-time marker to the desired point in the video’s timeline.

  2. Select a question type by clicking on one of the icons. Available question types are listed below.

    • Multiple Choice – Question with only one correct answer.

    • True/False

    • Open-Ended/Short Answer (not graded)

    • Reflection Point – Video pause with text

  3. Once you click the icon you’ll be prompted to enter the question and optional answers depending on the question type.

    1. If you would like, you can add a web link for each question.

      • Use Ctrl + K (on Mac, Command + K). Change the link title to the text to display on the question and change the URL to the desired URL site, e.g., [Google|http://google.com].

      • Click Save after entering each question and optional answers. Add other questions of any type to the rest of the video.

    2. For multiple-choice questions, shuffle the answers after entering the choices so the correct answer is not always the first answer. You can optionally click and hold on the menu to the left of the choices and move the answers to where you want them.

    3. For true/false questions, keep the positive answer on the left and the negative answer on the right (i.e., True/False or Yes/No). Then click the check box to the right of the answer to mark it correct.

    4. For multiple-choice, true/false, and open-ended questions, you can add a hint or give a rationale for the correct answer. Students will not see the rationale until they submit their answers.

  4. Click on the Eye icon at the bottom of the video to preview the quiz.

  5. Click Done when you are finished editing the quiz.
