Faculty Consulting Services

Faculty members are state employees and thus they need to adhere to specific guidelines when engaging in consulting work with outside agencies in order to remain compliant with state regulations and institutional policies.

Here are the different ways:

  1. Presenting to another agency:

    1. The details of the presentation and the audience should be disclosed with ample time before the presentation.

    2. The presentation should not be promotional in nature. If it falls under such, then it will not get approved. Please refer to the University’s Consulting Management Committee decision from a similar situation in the past.

    3. The purpose should not simply be to develop better public speaking skills.

  2. Teaching at another Institution:

    1. The request for approval should include the fact that the opportunity will not compete with the University and how it will be handled with the faculty member’s usual academic year course load.

    2. More information is better! The nature of the students, the course, the purpose of teaching, and the organization/institution should be included in the request for the consulting.
