Renting Out Equipment

If someone outside of UConn wants to borrow University equipment, they are allowed to as long as the attached document is filled out, signed, and sent to Inventory Control InventoryControl@uconn.edu

Question:

A film production company based in the UK, who is making a National Geographic/Disney+ documentary, asked me whether they can borrow some of the equipment I have in my lab.

It would be a handful of heart rate monitors, each costing about 500 USD, so the total value would probably be around $3,000.

They tried to buy those, but the company that makes them has no stock at the moment.

They are offering to pay a fee that would go to my lab, and they would also cover shipping and insurance costs for the devices.

Given that these devices are UConn property, Is this something that we can do?

Answer:

Yes, the use of University equipment for those outside is allowed and the attached document is something that should be used and returned to Inventory Control documenting the usage. We may also charge for the use of the equipment so you can edit that line in the document.
