Understanding Course IDs

This article is for faculty and staff who are looking to understand what a course ID means in HuskyCT

The course ID can be broken down into 5 distinct parts. Term code, department, catalog number, section number, and class number. Each of these represents different things. The example below is a fake, but functionally correct course id:

1205-UCONN-ACCT-3500-SECZ81-1234

This can be broken down as follows:

Term code

This is a four-digit code that represents the term of a specific semester. This is broken down into three parts. Century, Year, and Term. In the term code 1205, 1 represents the 21st century, 20 represents 2020, and 5 represents the summer term. In the term code 1198, 1 represents the 21st century, 19 represents 2019, and 8 represents the fall semester.

Term numbers (the last digit) are the following:

• 1 - Winter

• 3 - Spring

• 5 - Summer

• 8 - Fall

Department

The four (or three) letter abbreviation of the department of the course.

Catalog Number

The catalog number of the course.

Section

The section number of the course.

Class Number

This is the PeopleSoft class number assigned to the course by the registrar's office.
