Bulk Import Students into Groups using a CSV - Original

This article is explains how to bulk enroll users in a previously created group in HuskyCT course (Original Course View).

Overview:

In order to bulk import users to an existing group(s), you will need to upload a 2-column CSV file which lists:

  1. The Group Code of the group(s) you want to add users into

  2. A list of all user NetIDs (usernames) that you would like to add to the group(s)


Step 1: Preparing a CSV with the Group Code and NetIDs

  1. Open the HuskyCT course that contains the existing group(s) that you want to import students into.

  2. In the Control Panel section, click Users and Groups.

  3. Then click Groups.

  4. Click on the View Options drop-down. and click Show Group Code. The group code is used in the CSV to associate the students with their group.

  5. The group codes will be now be visible in the right-most column.

  6. If there no Group Code showing for a group, click the Export.

  7. Then export “Groups only” and “Include header row”.

  8. You will receive an email that contains a download link to zip file.

  9. Extract the zip file and open the CSV contained within.

  10. There you can find all Group Codes.

  11. In Excel, create a two-column CSV file.

  12. In the left-hand column, input the full Group Code including all characters. There should be a Group Code listed next to each user’s NetID.

  13. In the right-hand column, input the NetIDs of all students you wish to enroll. If you are enrolling many students you can retrieve a list of NetIDs through Student Admin, and copy their NetIDs to the CSV.

  14. Save the CSV to your local computer.


Step 2: Import the Group Members

  1. Back in your HuskyCT course Groups page, click the Import button.

  2. In the Import Group Members section click Browse Local Files. Locate and select the CSV that you created.

  3. Click Submit.

  4. You will receive an email once the process is complete.
