Faculty and staff enrolling in the two-factor authentication (2FA) service can choose to designate a landline as a second factor. A second factor is a device that you own that will be linked to your NetID.

These directions are for adding your first 2FA device. If you already have added a device to the service, see Add a Backup Device.

Start-Up Process for Adding a Landline

  1. Go to netid.uconn.edu/tools/duo/ and log in with your NetID and NetID password.

  2. You will be greeted with a “Welcome to Duo Security” screen. Click Next until you reach the “Select an option” screen.

  3. Select Phone number.

  4. Select your country code (+1 for USA) from the dropdown and enter your 10-digit phone number.

  5. Check the box for “This is a landline phone” and click the Add phone number button.

  6. On the next screen, enter an extension number if required. Otherwise, click Skip this Step.

  7. The final screen will ask if the phone number you entered is correct. If it is, select Yes, it’s correct.

  8. You will then see a page that says you have successfully added a phone. Click Continue.

  9. The next screen is optional, here you can add another authentication method if you wish. Otherwise, choose Skip for now.

  10. Setup is now complete. Click Log in with Duo to test the landline authentication.
