Platform authentication is currently incompatible with Lockdown browser. Please ensure that you register your phone as a 2FA device using the Duo Mobile App as a backup authentication method.

Learn about platform authenticators

  • Registering your computer or tablet for platform authentication in Duo allows you to authenticate Duo prompts directly on the device, without the need to involve your phone in the process.

  • Platform authentication leverages the latest security technologies built into Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android.

  4. You will now be presented with the Duo Device Management Portal. Select Add a device.

    Add a device
  5. The following prompt will display either Windows Hello or Touch ID, depending on the operating system you are using. Select the appropriate option.

    Select Windows Hello or TouchID
  6. You will now be prompted by your operating system to confirm the addition of the Duo passkey. If you have a fingerprint reader built into your device, it will prompt you to touch it in order to confirm. If there is no fingerprint reader, you will be prompted to enter your pin instead.

Note: If your Windows device has a fingerprint reader, but you wish to use a pin instead, select More choices to show the pin option.

  7. Duo will now confirm that your device was registered successfully. Select Continue.

  8. You will then be returned to the Device Management portal. You should now see the device you’ve added.

Notice that it will have a generic name such as “Windows Hello” or “iCloud Keychain”. Take a moment to rename it by selecting Edit>Rename. Rename it to something you will remember, like “Jonathan’s Work Laptop” or “Jane’s Personal MacBook”.

Note: While you are here, take a moment to note all of the devices registered in your Duo account. If there are any old devices you no longer use, or devices you do not recognize, delete them.
