Faculty, students, and staff can join a session using the Webex app for smartphones. The Webex application can be installed on Apple and Android devices.

Using the Webex Smartphone App

If your phone detects that you are in a moving vehicle, the app will switch to Audio Only Mode. After the automatic switch, you may manually return to video mode if you wish. Learn more about the Audio Only Mode at the bottom of this guide.

Whether you received a Webex link through your email, a website, or other messaging application, you can open the link while on your phone to join the session from your smartphone.

  1. Click on the meeting link you received.

  2. One of two things will happen after your browser opens:

    1. If you have the app on your mobile device already, the app will open automatically and bring you to your video preview screen.

    2. If you do not have the app on your mobile device, you will be asked to download the app or join by phone call.

Audio Only Mode

While in the app, you may enter Audio Only Node. This will disable incoming video and your outgoing video as well. This will decrease your bandwidth requirements.

To enter Audio Only Mode, tap on the ellipsis button to view the More Options menu. Then select Audio Only Mode. If you would like to leave this mode to return to video mode, swipe from the right to the left side of the screen.
