Lockdown Browser (Student)

Overview

LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the exam environment within HuskyCT. When LockDown Browser is used during an online exam, you are unable to go to other URLs, switch applications, take screenshots, copy questions, or print. Instant messaging and email applications are also disabled.

Instructors may require the use of LockDown Browser for HuskyCT exams. If an instructor requires LockDown Browser for an exam, students are responsible for taking the exam from a computer that has LockDown Browser installed. University library computers as well as loaner laptops have the LockDown Browser application pre-installed. If students are taking the exam on their personal computer, UConn’s LockDown Browser version must be downloaded and installed. LockDown Browser application can be used on both Macs, Windows PCs and Chromebook.

Prior to Taking a LockDown Browser Test

Students should always check for and install updates for Lockdown Browser before starting a test. Instructions can be found on the Respondus Website.

Duo and Mac OS - If using TouchID as your 2FA device, please ensure that you have other options. LDB doesn’t allow TouchID through, so you need to let it timeout (60 seconds) before you are given an option to use an alternative method. Please visit the KB page about Duo for assistance in editing your devices.

Taking a Test using LockDown Browser

When it is time to start the test, run the LockDown Browser application from your computer. This will turn off all other functionalities except those required to navigate to your HuskyCT course and to the test.

If you are asked for a password to start the test (as seen in the image below) that means you are attempting to take the test from a regular browser rather than the LockDown Browser application.

For more information see Quick Tips Guide.
