Wired Connections

Wired connections are present when machines are directly connected to a building's data jack via an Ethernet cable. Nearly all University-supported desktops and docked laptops have a wired connection.

Requesting a Jack

Departments or individuals who need a jack installed or an existing jack activated so that they can have voice, data, or cable television services should complete the New Data Jack Request Form or contact the ITS Technology Support Center for assistance.

Reporting an Issue

Faculty, staff, and students who are experiencing connectivity issues in any UConn buildings, including residence halls, should contact the ITS Technology Support Center for assistance.

Requesting an IP Address Reservation

Wired Connections

If you need an IP address reservation (DHCP reservation) for a wired device, contact the ITS Technology Support Center.

Wired connections are most frequently given 137.99.###.### or 10.16.###.### IP ranges, which gives the computer access to UConn systems that may otherwise require a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

If you need to connect an IoT device (e.g., game console) that doesn’t support wired connections to Wi-Fi, you can register your device and connect to UCONN-GUEST. See Registering Wireless Devices for Internet Access.
