Paying Students Lump Sums

  • Need to provide the hours/rate that is being worked for the lump sum.

    • Lump sum payments need to be above minimum wage.

    • Students do miss out on the hours counting towards sick time though and if they have another student job and the two jobs combined for over 40 hours for that particular week, they will not be compliant with FLSA.

  • For timecards - the lump sum should be entered on the timesheet by the supervisor and use REGPD as the TRC

  • Lump sum payment requests should be routed through the Business Center before being entered into CORE so that we can get the approval from Payroll and detail the processing information.

    • Lump sums should be used in limited circumstances (ex. a student playing an instrument for commencement).
