Full time employees (faculty, staff, special payroll) are eligible to sponsor accounts for university affiliates, student employees (NetIDWork), and privileged access (NetIDAdmin). ITS has created the Account Sponsorship Application to provide an easy way to create and manage these accounts. Learn how to use and access the Account Sponsorship Application.

The Account Sponsorship Application is available at netid.uconn.edu/affiliate. Login required.

Sponsoring Affiliate Accounts

Departments often need to give individuals temporary access to university resources. These individuals are often temporary contractors or visitors that are otherwise not employed or affiliated with the university. By sponsoring an affiliate account for them, they will be assigned a NetID that they can use the same way a full time employee or student can. This NetID allows them to log in to many services such as UConn's Single Sign On, ITS Supported Workstations, UCONN-SECURE, etc. Affiliate accounts may be sponsored for up to 12 months from the date of request and may optionally receive university email. Learn how to sponsor affiliate accounts.

Sponsoring Student Employee (NetIDWork) Accounts

ITS encourages departments to obtain NetIDWork accounts for Student Employees. These accounts allow for a student's responsibilities as an employee to remain separate from their duties as a student and for any access to university data to be easily revoked if they leave the position. NetIDWork accounts will also receive university email and be given access to Office 365. If you sponsor a NetIDWork account for a student employee, they will receive a new NetID in the format of aaa00000work, where the first 3 letters and 5 numbers match their existing NetID. Learn how to sponsor NetIDWork accounts.

Sponsoring Privileged Access (NetIDAdmin) Accounts

Employees that have a high level of administrative access to a system or application should have a NetIDAdmin account sponsored for them. NetIDAdmin accounts help separate day-to-day account tasks from those that can have a large impact on a university system and reduce the risk of phishing attacks compromising applications. NetIDAdmin accounts are not eligible to have email created for them. If you sponsor a NetIDAdmin account for an employee, they will receive a new NetID in the format of aaa00000admin, where the first 3 letters and 5 numbers match their existing NetID. Learn how to sponsor NetIDAdmin accounts.
