Outlook Features
This article is intended for faculty, staff, and student workers that use the email and calendaring application Microsoft Outlook. This article contains instructions on setting up and using its basic features. Student workers log in with their netidwork@uconn.edu and password. Faculty and staff log in with their firstname.lastname@uconn.edu and NetID password.
Using Mail
Outlook and Apple Mail serve as desktop clients for email.
Gmail can be set up to be used in Outlook.
Spam rules allow you to set a filter so that emails marked as spam are redirected to a different folder.
If you ever delete emails accidentally, there is a way to recover them in Outlook or Office 365.
Enable or disable the auto-complete list feature in Outlook.
Mass mail enables a sender to contact a large number of recipients via email at one time.
Emails can be archived from Google Apps to Outlook.
Emails can be archived to a file on your computer and imported into Outlook.
Using Calendar
Outlook has a built-in calendar feature that allows you to create a calendar and share it or view other calendars that are shared with you.
Using Contacts
Contacts allows you to keep track of all of the people you need to communicate with.
You can also view the Global Address Book to see everyone in the same organization.
Changing Time Zone in Outlook 2010, 2013 and 2016
Click the File tab.
Click Options.
Click on the Calendar tab on the left, and under Time Zones, enter a name for your current time zone in the “Label” box.
In the Time Zone drop-down, select your desired time zone.
Changing Language in Outlook 2010, 2013 and 2016
Click the File tab.
Click the Options tab.
Click the Language tab on the left. Under “Choose Display and Help Languages,” select a language in the “display language” box.
Click Set as Default.
Click OK, and click OK again when prompted to restart Outlook.
Changing the Number of Lines Displayed in the Reading Preview Pane (Outlook 2013, 2016)
Click the View tab.
Click Message Preview.
Select the number of lines you wish displayed (1, 2, or 3).
You can also select Off if you don't want to use the reading preview pane.
