Using Student Preview in Ultra Course View

This article is intended for instructors looking to use Student Preview mode.

About Student Preview

Student Preview mode allows instructors to view the course thought the lens of a student in the course. Student Preview creates a separate user profile, [NetID]_previewuser, where [NetID] is your regular NetID, with the default role of Student.

Entering Student Preview

  1. Navigate to your course in HuskyCT.

  2. On the landing page for your course, in the upper right corner, click Student Preview.

  3. You will be prompted to confirm you want to enter Student Preview, click Start Preview.

  4. You will now be viewing your course as a student.

Exiting Student Preview

  1. Look for the gray bar across the of the screen.

  2. Click the Exit button on the far right

  3. A dialog box will appear titled Exit Student Preview.

  4. Click either Discard or Save to exit student preview mode.

    1. Discard: This will delete your preview user and all preview user data from the course.

    2. Save: This will preserve your preview user and all data in the course.

Student Preview Benefits

  • Student preview allows you to access the course through the lens of a student, allowing you to test features of your course before admitting students to your course.

    • Adding your preview user to Groups allows you to test group assignments and group adaptive release content

    • You can take tests or submit assignments, which you can grade, and you will be enabled to see how the feedback looks to students.

    • You can test out grade calculations in the Gradebook

  • It is important that you save preview user data when exiting student preview mode

Student Preview Limitations

  • Student Preview will not give an accurate representation of LTI tools such as WebEx as they rely on your email address for account identification, and your student preview user’s email is the same as your regular account.
