Common Items Loaned Out (School of Business)

The School of Business IT department currently offers a variety of hardware to loan out to UConn faculty, staff, and students.

Two forms have been created in order to more accurately track who has been loaned which asset. To request that a specific item be loaned out to you, select the following link:

Note that the equipment listed is loaned out short-term, and on a first-come, first-serve, basis. In order to ensure your preferred equipment is available on a given date, BUSN ITS recommends that you put in the request for an equipment loan as early as possible.

The following is a list of items that are available to be loaned out by the School of Business IT department:

Loaner Laptops

While the specific specifications of a given site’s laptops may vary, the basic functionality across each laptop has been verified to be identical. Staff and faculty members are given local administrator rights, allowing them to install any additional software that may be needed after BUSN IT loans out the laptop.

Students will not be given local administrator rights – any additional software will need to be installed by an BUSN IT technician before the device is loaned out.

Because a limited amount of laptops may be charging at any one time, please let us know in advance if you will need more than 5 laptops to be loaned out for your class/ event.

Laptop Chargers

BUSN ITS also allows chargers for various models of laptops to be loaned out. Our two most common types of chargers are:

  • 65 Watt USB-C charger (Can be used with most modern Windows-based laptops, as well as Macbook or Macbook Pro laptops released after 2016)

  • 60 W Lenovo rectangular "Slim Tip" power plug

Presenter/ Clicker

“Clickers” or PowerPoint presenter remotes are commonly given out for individuals who wish to operate their slide deck programs without being tethered to the keyboard controls of their machine. Each clicker consists of a remote that permits the following functions:

  • Advancing ahead and returning to a previous slide

  • A laser pointer (useful for referring to diagrams on a projector, for example)

Each presenter deployed by BUSN ITS consists of two components: the remote and its receiver. The receiver, regardless of model of presenter, resembles a small flash drive, and so is frequently left behind in a classroom. Make sure to return both the receiver and the remote to BUSN ITS.

Videoconferencing Equipment

In the event that a your current webcam or microphone are insufficient for a given videoconference meeting, BUSN ITS is able to loan out either:

  • A variety of 1080p webcams, to replace your current video solution; or

  • A variety of Jabra microphone pucks, to enhance both one’s current microphone system, or to offer a clearer speaker system.

Computer Peripherals

BUSN ITS also loans out wired or wireless keyboards and mice. You may find this useful to mitigate fatigue when typing or controlling your cursur for extended periods of time.

Cables/ Adapters

BUSN ITS is able to loan out a wide variety of video or data cables that you may need temporarily, as well as any adapters to accommodate for a lack of ports on one’s laptop, for example.

The most common cables that BUSN ITS loans out include:

  • HDMI cables

  • DisplayPort cables

  • USB-C cables

  • DisplayPort to miniDisplayPort cables

  • VGA/ DVI to HDMI/ DisplayPort cables

  • USB A to B (2.0 & 3.0)

Each of the above cables has a plug of the described type on either end. An HDMI cable, for example, will have an HDMI plug on both sides.

The most common adapters that BUSN ITS loans out include:

  • USB-C(plug) to USB-A(port)

  • USB-C(plug) to HDMI(port)

  • USB-A(plug) to USB-C(port)

  • USB-A(plug) to HDMI(port)

  • miniDisplayPort(plug) to HDMI(port)

Note that the above items are only the most common cables and adapters loaned out by BUSN ITS. If there is a specific type of cable or adapter that you may need not previously listed, feel free to reach out to us directly and specify what you are looking for – we will most likely still be able to accommodate your request.

Temporary Equipment following a Replacement Purchase

BUSN ITS is also able to loan out equipment in an instance where you would need a replacement for a piece of hardware, have already ordered one, and will need a leaned piece of equipment in the meantime. For instance, if you have spilled liquid on your keyboard, and need a spare keyboard for multiple weeks while your new keyboard is being shipped to your office, we can accommodate your need.

In the form noted at the top of this guide, mention that you broken a device, and that a replacement purchase is on the way. We can then work with you to make sure that you can utilise the loaned equipment for as long as you need.
