Content and Assessment Visibility in Ultra Course View

Content and Assessment Visibility in Ultra Course View

This article covers the options instructors/TAs have for managing student access to content or assessments.

Overview

In Ultra, student access to course items can set by adjusting the visibility status.

  • Course items can be either:

    • Visible = students can see and interact with the course item

    • Hidden = students cannot see or interact with the course item

  • Instructors/TAs can also use Release Conditions to specify more advanced conditions for access.

Release Conditions

  1. Navigate to your course in HuskyCT.

  2. Find the piece of content or content folder you want to set the conditions on.

  3. Under the item’s name, click the drop-down arrow next to Visible to students or Hidden from students.

  5. A new window will appear on the right hand side of the screen titled Release Conditions.

  6. Set any desired criteria.

    1. Select Members: Allows instructors to limit visibility to a specific student or group of students. Check the box next to Specific members or groups to enforce this setting.

    2. Date/Time: Allows instructors to limit visibility based on a Show on and Hide after date/time setting. Check the box next to Date/Time to enforce this setting.

    3. Performance: Allows instructors to limit visibility based on a student’s performance on another gradebook item. Check the box next to Performance to enforce this setting.

  7. Click Save.

Criteria for Release Conditions

The membership field allows instructors to limit access to an item or assignment to a particular student or group of students. By default, content is visible to all students. This is the equivalent of the Membership criteria in HuskyCT Original Course View.

After checking Specific members or groups, and instructor can specify the members or groups who should have access to the item.

You must either set a Show on and/or Hide after date for this setting to take effect.

The Date/Time criteria allows instructors to restrict access to an item or assignment to a particular time frame. Setting a Show on and/or Hide after date/time will make the content available after the Show on date and it will remain available until the Hide after date.

The Performance criteria allows instructors to set access to a course item/assessment based on performance on a specified course assessment.

  • First select a gradable item (i.e., a test, assignment, grade column etc.)

  • Then, specify the grade/performance requirement that needs to be attained by a student on that gradable item in order to gain access.

Custom Range

Attempt Submitted

With Custom Range, instructors input the minimum and maximum points or percentage that students must achieve to gain access.

Attempt Submitted grants access to students after they have submitted an attempt on the Gradable item.

  • **At this time, this criteria is only applicable to Tests and Assignments. Discussion and Journal posts cannot be used to trigger an attempt.

These settings are only available if the Membership criteria is set to All Members, and either the Date/Time and/or Performance criteria are set.

The When will content appear menu allows instructor to customize what will happen before the release conditions are met.

If the Show option is selected, content will be visible, but not accessible to students.

If the Hide option is selected, the content will not appear for students until the Release Conditions are met. This is similar to how Adaptive Release functioned in Original Course View.
