Procedures For All Shifts

  • Arrive on time, please see attendance policy.
  • Check the Stamford Help Desk Email (stamfordtechsvcs@uconn.edu) at the start of every shift at a minimum. Check periodically if time permits. Ticket any email and move the email to your folder so other will know that it has been ticketed.
  • Maintain basic cleanliness periodically – walk the floor of the learning commons, push in all chairs that are out. Pick up any trash unattended. This should be done every hour or so.
  • Enforce all library rules for students using the library.
    • Follow Library policy on food and drink, only covered drinks are permitted. Food is limited to snack food only, no hot food or sandwiches.  This rule applies to you when you are at the tech desk.
    • Cell phones should NOT be used in the library, this includes student workers. We understand that emergencies happen, if you need to take a call step outside of the library and note this break on your timecard.
  • Ticket all work
    • The volume of tickets created is one of the ways we justify funding for your job, please create tickets for all work.
    • Assist students with questions as best you can; if you are able to help them create a ticket and mark it as resolved.
    • If you are unable to answer the question create a ticket. Make sure to get their phone number; this is important for tickets regarding email issues and we have to be able to get in touch with them to resolve the issue.
    • If it is a NetID password issue, assist them with resetting their password on the netid.uconn.edu page, if this does not work help them call the help desk. If calling the help desk, please do it at your work area to minimize disruption to other students.
  • You should check the computer lab schedule in teams and report up to the lab area 15 min. before every class to ensure the labs are unlocked and all PCs are functional. If anything is not functional and you are unable to resolve it by basic troubleshooting, this is considered a classroom emergency and you should call us at extension 8547 right away.  When unlocking the lab, please let the library staff know where you are and put the sign on your desk letting the customer know where you are.
  • Notify William Shannon if there are changes in the computer lab schedule such as a facility member not showing up.
  • Check to make sure that printers are loaded with paper. Paper is stored in the gray cabinet under the printer.  When paper supply gets low you will need to retrieve paper from the closet.  The key can be picked up from the front desk.  Let William know when paper is running low in the closet so that he can reorder.  Don’t hesitate to ask for our help if you are unable to lift the reams of paper, don’t hurt yourself.
  • Change toner in the printers are needed. Toner is located below the printers and should automatically be reordered.  Let William know if it is running low.
  • Perform any other related duties or tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
  • The non-emergency number for the UConn Police is 860-486-4800. For true emergencies, call 911. Only call 911 if you believe someone’s safety is in imminent danger (medical emergencies, fights, threatening behavior etc.)
