Share Microsoft Stream Video

Students, faculty and staff can share Stream files different ways depending on their audience. Stream can process video, video files with audio, and audio files without video.

Share a Stream video or audio

In 2023-2024 Stream merged with other products in Microsoft 365. “Stream (classic)” is now “Stream (on SharePoint)”. These instructions will follow the newer app version, Stream (on SharePoint).

If you simply need to share access to the file, you may do so using File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (macOS). If you need more complex tools, such as “Copy link at current time” to have your recipients automatically start the video/audio at a certain time, or if you need to embed the video/audio, please use your web browser to complete the task. This guide will use the website for simplicity.

  1. Visit https://www.microsoft365.com/launch/stream?auth=2 to navigate directly to Stream.
If you do not see your file, visit s.uconn.edu/onedrive or s.uconn.edu/sharepoint to find your file.

  2. Click on your file to view it. From this page you can play your video/audio.

  3. In the top-right corner you will see the Share button. Click on this button.

  4. To simply share the file with others, click on Share. You will see the popup share window that is common throughout Microsoft 365.

  5. If you would like the share link to begin the video/audio at a certain timestamp, first play the video/audio and pause it at your desired start time.

    1. Click on Copy link at current time to generate a share link that, when clicked on, will begin your video/audio at the current timestamp.

  6. To embed the video/audio file on a website click on Embed.

    1. Next you will be given choices that alter the embed code for you.

Stream does not support publicly embedding files. If you embed your file on a website, visitors will need to be signed into a UConn Microsoft 365 account to view the file. If you need to share your file publicly, choose one of the other options.
