Naming Files on SharePoint
File Types Allowed in SharePoint
There are no invalid types of files or file extensions. However, there are restrictions to the names of files saved.
Invalid Characters for File and Folder Names
No filenames can contain: .lock, CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM0Â - COM9, LPT0 - LPT9, _vti_, desktop.ini, or any filename starting with ~$.
Paths for a document location that include the folder and file name cannot exceed more than 400 characters total. File and folder names cannot contain any of the following characters:
